Bitcoin ETFs Turn Negative for 2026 After $1.28 Billion Weekly Outflows, Their Worst Since June

The 12 spot bitcoin funds listed in the United States have now recorded $914.1 million in net outflows for the year. Meanwhile, ether, Solana and Hyperliquid ETFs extended their weekly outflow streaks in a sharp reversal for crypto exchange-traded funds.
According to The Block’s analysis of SoSoValue data, U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded $1.28 billion in net outflows last week, their weakest weekly result since late June. This was the funds’ second consecutive week of net outflows and ranked as the seventh-largest weekly outflow among the ten biggest recorded since the products launched in January 2024.
The data showed outflows on every trading day last week except Wednesday. The funds lost $398.6 million on Monday, $115.6 million on Tuesday, $430.2 million on Thursday and $411.9 million on Friday. Wednesday was the only positive session, with a comparatively modest inflow of $74.6 million.
The most recent week with larger outflows ended on June 26, when the funds lost $1.79 billion. The Block reported at the time that this was the second-largest weekly outflow on record. In the preceding week, bitcoin ETFs had lost $202.6 million, including $643.3 million in withdrawals on Friday. That was the largest single-day outflow in four months, following the record Binance hack.
BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for $403 million of Friday’s losses, equivalent to approximately 88% of the day’s gross outflows. Bitwise’s BITB and Ark & 21Shares’ ARKB each recorded losses of about $20 million, while Grayscale’s GBTC saw $11.1 million leave the fund. Fidelity’s FBTC attracted $42.8 million on Friday, following its position as the leading source of outflows on Thursday, when it lost $199.9 million, as The Block reported.
Bitcoin funds move into negative territory for 2026
The week’s withdrawals erased the bitcoin ETFs’ gains for the year. At the start of the week, the funds had approximately $368 million in net inflows for 2026, having returned to positive territory for the year in late September. Outflows on Monday pushed the year-to-date figure below zero, and by Friday’s close the funds had recorded approximately $914.1 million in net outflows for 2026.
The combined value of bitcoin held by the 12 funds fell 2.3% to $95.9 billion, representing approximately 6.3% of the cryptocurrency’s market capitalization. IBIT had $60.3 billion in net assets, compared with $65.1 billion in cumulative inflows.
The withdrawals took place amid a selloff in crypto assets and equities following Tuesday’s midterm elections. Bitcoin declined 5.6% on Thursday alone. Analysts connected the drop to the Democrats’ sweep of Congress and uncertainty surrounding AI spending, The Block reported on Friday. Analysts have said that the Democratic wave in Texas, in particular, could slow development in a state filled with bitcoin mining facilities and data centers.
Ether funds extend outflow streak to six weeks
According to SoSoValue data, spot ether ETFs recorded $365.3 million in outflows last week, extending their net outflow streak to six consecutive weeks. The run has taken approximately $2.02 billion out of the funds since late September. Ether ETFs have recorded eight-week losing streaks twice; the most recent instance was when they matched that record in early July.
As with bitcoin funds, ether ETFs had only one positive trading day last week: Wednesday, when they attracted $53 million. Monday saw the largest outflow of the week, at $139.8 million, followed by $100 million on Thursday and $93.2 million on Friday. BlackRock’s ETHA accounted for $90.8 million of Friday’s total, or approximately 96% of gross outflows, reflecting a pattern similar to that of the firm’s bitcoin fund.
The products are now down approximately $405.6 million for 2026. Their net assets declined 2.9% over the week to $12.84 billion, compared with cumulative net inflows of $11.92 billion.
Solana and Hyperliquid funds record their longest outflow streaks
Spot Solana ETFs lost $26.3 million last week, according to SoSoValue, with nearly all of the withdrawals occurring on Friday. This marked their fifth consecutive week of net outflows, the longest such run since the funds began trading in October 2025. The five-week period brought total outflows to $165.4 million. The streak began during the week in which the funds’ record 14-week inflow run came to an end.
Bitwise’s BSOL led Solana ETF outflows on Friday with $14.4 million, followed by Grayscale’s GSOL with $5.4 million. As of Friday, the funds held $1.31 billion in net assets, down from $1.40 billion a week earlier. Despite the recent withdrawals, they remain approximately $676.2 million positive for the year.
The three publicly traded Hyperliquid ETFs recorded $15.6 million in outflows, also extending their losing run to five consecutive weeks. This is the longest outflow streak since the funds began trading in May. They have shed $58.4 million over those five weeks, while their net assets declined by approximately 17% during the week to $374.1 million. Bitwise’s BHYP led Friday’s $8 million in outflows.
Bitcoin was trading near $75,880 on Saturday morning, while ether changed hands at around $2,244, SOL at approximately $89.84 and HYPE at around $77.79, according to The Block’s price pages.
